Kenyan Top Bar Hive

$600.00

The Coralwood Farm Kenyan Top Bar Hive is a high-quality product crafted to provide an ergonomic hive style well suited for Australian conditions. First designed to encourage beekeeping micro enterprises in global development projects, the KTB is simple to understand, ergonomic, and allows beekeepers to harvest honey one comb at a time.

Coralwood Farm Kenyan Top Bar Hives are crafted from 25mm Monterey Cypress (Cupressus Macrocarpa), salvaged from farms in south eastern Australia. The timber is then milled, graded and seasoned before use.

Monterey Cypress is close to the perfect hive building material. Lighter and more durable than Radiata Pine, as a timber it does not require paint or other treatment before use. However, treating the hive with our Hive Rub will help maintain the golden colour and prolong its service for many years.

The Kenyan Top Bar Hive has no frames, letting bees build their own combs at their own pace as they need it. This maintains hive cleanliness by ensuring new wax and minimising opportunities for pests like the small hive beetle to hide. Top bars are accurately cut to ensure a secure home for the bees. A lightweight and attractive gable roof protects the hive from beating Australian sun and rain.

When you purchase a Kenyan Top Bar Hive from Coralwood, you receive.

· Hive body crafted from 25mm Monterey Cypress.

· Gable roof crafted from Monterey Cypress with Cedar roofing shingles

· 36 Top Bars with grooves for starter strips.

· Hardwood legs

We can flat pack our KTB hives and can send them Australia wide to your door. Included are detailed instructions so that you can easily re-assemble it yourself.
