Warré Hive
Invented by French priest, Emile Warré as ‘the people’s hive”, this design is intended to replicate the tree hollow that bees may inhabit in nature. rather than adding boxes to the top, the beekeeper adds new boxes underneath the stack to allow the bees to continually create new wax, maintaining a clean and healthy environment without the need for constant intervention.
Coralwood Farm Warré Hives are crafted from 25mm Monterey Cypress (Cupressus Macrocarpa), salvaged from farms in south eastern Australia. The timber is then milled, graded and seasoned before use.
Monterey Cypress is close to the perfect hive building material. Lighter and more durable than pine, as a timber it does not require paint or other treatment before use, though treating the hive with our Hive Rub mixture will prolong its service for many years.
When you purchase a Warré Hive from Coralwood, you receive:
· Gabled Warré roof and quilt box
·4 boxes, constructed with 65mm decking screws and Titebond 3 glue. We use traditional ‘cleat’ style handles. We sell individual boxes as you need them.
· 8 Warré frames per box.
· Custom bottom board for bee-friendly pest control and monitoring.
We can flat pack our Warré hives and can send them Australia wide to your door. Included are detailed instructions so that you can easily re-assemble it yourself.
All hives are built to order, please allow up to 4 weeks for delivery.
*Shipping cost will be added at checkout. We currently use Australia Post to ship all packages. Free local pick up available.
